A CENTURY OF DEDICATED SERVICE: The Totowa Fire Department celebrated their
100th Anniversary with a parade and picnic on Saturday, June 21. The parade lasted nearly 2 hours
and included more than 100 pieces of fire apparatus both modern and antique; ambulances, police
vehicles, special operations vehicles and Passaic County Sheriff's Department mounted officers on
horseback. There was also a number of antique cars and trucks, several motorcycles, floats and lets
not forget the marching bands. Following the parade, several trophies were awarded in various
categories as the picnic commenced in the field behind Washington Park School. Participating in the
parade were companies from as far away as the Village of Mamaroneck, NY in Westchester County and
the Seaford (Long Island, NY) Fire Department from Nassau County. Approximately mid way through the
parade, two of the companies who were covering the borough, a truck from Wayne Co.2 and an engine
from Franklin Lakes, were dispatched to a report of a gas leak. Officers held back the parade
briefly to allow the responding fire apparatus to cross Union Blvd.
