Pequannock Twp. Engine Co.1 attends Baskin-Robbins National
Fundraiser.................... Pompton Plains, NJ – Local residents showed up in force on
Wednesday, April 29, in support of their fire department and for a good cause. It was the
nationally sponsored 31 Cent Scoop Night at the Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin-Robbins on Route 23 in the
Township. Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream hosts this annual event to honor America’s firefighters with a
$100,000 donation to the National Volunteer Fire Council’s (NVFC) National Junior Firefighter
Program. The program gives fire departments and young, potential firefighters nationwide, the tools
and resources needed to help promote and participate in their local programs. The junior fighters
learn about fire, rescue and EMS organizations in a safe, educational and fun way. The program also
provides these volunteer departments with an excellent means for recruitment. Firefighters from
Pequannock Township Engine Co.1 were on hand from 5pm until 10pm with Engine 1-1, displaying the
apparatus and tools used for fire fighting and rescue operations. Area residents were greeted by
Department Chief David James and several of his crew members, and were happy to pose for pictures.
The store enjoyed a steady stream of customers and supporters and at one point, the waiting line
extended out of the front door! Chief James stated: “It looks like a pretty good turnout!”…and
indeed it was. The Chief, on behalf of all the Pequannock Township firefighters, would like to
thank Baskin-Robbins and all who gave their support to the fire service.
